Happy Holidays from GEC!

As the holiday season approaches, we at Green Economy Canada want to take a moment to celebrate this incredible year. We’re deeply grateful to our members, partners, and supporters for being an integral part of this journey. Join us for some highlights from the past year.

    • We launched a new Green Economy Hub, Green Economy Calgary, thanks to a partnership with Alberta Ecotrust and with funding support from the City of Calgary and Natural Resources Canada. Momentum is building with 11 businesses already signed up as members!
    • Thanks to the support of Co-operators, we developed an exciting new strategic plan (more details to come in 2025!) and enhanced the value our members receive by launching a national event series, and a national members-only newsletter called The Pulse.
    • Thanks to the support of Scotiabank, we launched two new membership tracks that make it even easier to join our network and get on the path to a sustainable future. Not yet a member? Contact us and join us in making business better, together!
    • As part of helping Canada reduce transportation emissions, we provided $765,500 of funding this year to 25 businesses through our EV Charger Incentive Program funded by Natural Resources Canada. We expect 222 EV chargers to be installed in communities across the country by the end of this year!
    • The Climate Action Boot Camp made its triumphant return in 2024, thanks to the support of RBC. After a successful pilot last year, we delivered 14 free introductory workshops to help small and medium-sized enterprises understand the growing business case for reducing their carbon emissions. Did you miss it? Good news! We’ve just added 4 new workshop dates in February! Get started on your sustainability journey and register today!
    • The Climate Action Microgrant also returned this year supported by TD. Ten members of our national network were selected to receive up to $2500 to fund their sustainability projects. Stay tuned in the new year to hear more about the winners!
    • Thanks to funding from ACOA, we completed a net-zero manufacturing study in Atlantic Canada. Stay tuned in the new year for the release of the report and a new tool to help businesses understand their readiness to make the transition to a low-carbon future!
    • We added even more bench strength to the governance of Green Economy Canada through the addition of three new board membersArthur Kong, Director of Project Development at Next Generation Manufacturing Canada (NGen); Carolyn Kim, Vice President of Corporate Affairs for UPS Canada; and Tom Ewart, Associate Vice-President of Sustainability at The Co-operators Group Limited.

What a year for GEC! Next year will be equally eventful, beginning with an announcement of a new partnership that will supercharge how our members measure and track their emissions (stay tuned to this space)!

Here’s to everything we accomplished, and all of the exciting opportunities that lie ahead!
