The Nickel Refillery

Sudbury

Hub: Green Economy North

The Nickel Refillery is a plastic free grocery store located in the City of Greater Sudbury, which first opened its doors to the public in October 2019. Armed with their distinctive green aprons, refillery employees are the driving force behind the store and its operations, helping create a sense of fun and engagement among its customers and clientele. The refillery was formed by local champions Liz and Alex Anawati, with additional support from members of the community – who came together to share their expert knowledge and passion for sustainability. The store sells both local and Canadian-made products which emphasize the importance of people and our planet. It continues to expand its range of ingredients, household goods, DIY equipment and personal care options. The Nickel Refillery is more than your usual grocery store. They participate in community-based initiatives, and provide supplementary tools and services to support households and businesses as they seek to reduce their waste. The refillery hosts regular workshops and offers reusable dish rentals. It also supports other local businesses including Airbnb’s and restaurants. The Nickel Refillery acknowledges we are in Robinson-Huron Treaty territory and the land on which we operate is on the traditional territory of the Atikameksheng Anishnaabeg.
