Update on the EcoBusiness Network
Late last week, we were disappointed to learn the EcoBusiness Network would be winding down due to ongoing challenges with the organization’s financial viability. As a result, there is no longer an organization operating a Green Economy Hub in Durham Region.
We are saddened by this development and recognize the significant impact it has on the individuals and organizations working with EBN. We would like to acknowledge the team at EBN for all they did to support organizations in Durham Region to find a competitive advantage by taking action on sustainability.
We also commend the businesses that were part of EBN for the progress that had been made to date. Most notably, Canada Rubber Group, Durham Condo Corporation, Durham Corporate Centre, and Plasti-Fab, all of whom had set public GHG reduction targets and were reporting through EBN in the past year. We wish them all continued success with their sustainability efforts.
At Green Economy Canada, we remain focused on launching and growing impactful and financially self-sufficient Hubs. As with any social innovation, we continue to learn how to best set up all Hubs to be successful in the long run. We know there are lessons to be learned from this experience, and will be taking time in the weeks and months to come to reflect and make changes as needed to improve the success rate of all Hubs.
