Shawn covers the global energy beat at The Globe and Mail. He writes on various aspects of the international energy industry, from oil and gas production and refining, to the development of new technologies, to the business implications of climate-change regulations.

Shawn will be moderating our Sustainability Across Party Lines panel.


Sarah Burch, Associate Professor
University of Waterloo

Recently named to Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 for 2018, Sarah’s research focuses on governing responses to climate change in urban spaces. In particular, she has explored the contributions towards sustainability made by small and medium businesses, and how to radically transform organizations to be significantly more sustainable.

Sarah will be a panelist on our Sustainability Across Party Lines panel.


Paul Richardson, Co-Founding & Managing Partner
Renewal Funds

Paul co-founded Renewal Funds, one of Canada’s largest early-stage impact investment funds, with $98 million in assets under management. Renewal Funds invests exclusively in companies that deliver a substantive environmental or social impact in the sectors of organics and environmental technology. Its portfolio companies include SPUD, Mama Earth Organics, Prana and FoodLogiQ.

Paul Rak, President & Founder
VeriForm

Paul is the president and owner of VeriForm, a metal fabrication company in Cambridge and member of the Regional Sustainability Initiative in Waterloo Region. In 2006, Paul began exploring how to make VeriForm’s operations more environmentally friendly. What Paul discovered was the low-carbon advantage. Since that time, VeriForm has not only cut its GHG emissions by 77%, but also saved over $2 million while growing its workforce by 25%.

Paul will be a panelist on our Sustainability Across Party Lines panel and delivering a visual presentation on VeriForm’s sustainability journey.


Richard Eberhardt, Program Director
Green Economy North, reThink Green

Richard leads Green Economy North — the Green Economy Hub in Sudbury — which has quickly established itself as the go-to solution for businesses looking for a competitive advantage in sustainability in Northern Ontario. Over the last year a swell of organizations have joined the Hub, bringing total membership to over 40. The local media has taken notice too during that time, publishing nearly 20 pieces highlighting the work of Green Economy North.

Richard will be delivering a visual presentation on how Green Economy North is helping businesses find the competitive advantage in sustainability.
