Priyanka Lloyd, the Executive Director of Green Economy Canada, will be stepping down from the national non-profit organization in June of this year.
“After much careful thought, I have decided to transition out of the ED role and take a personal sabbatical to spend more time with family,” says Lloyd. “This is an incredible organization and I am proud to have been a part of it for almost 12 years. With a new strategic plan, expanded board, and a solid team in place, the time is right for a new Executive Director to guide the organization through its next chapter.”
Green Economy Canada (GEC) educates and supports primarily small and medium-sized enterprises to reduce their environmental impacts and transition to a low-carbon economy. Through its network of Green Economy Hubs, it provides the guidance, tools, peer network, and recognition members need to achieve their sustainability goals. Lloyd co-founded Green Economy Canada, formerly known as Sustainability CoLab, in 2013 and shifted into the Executive Director role in 2018.
Under her leadership as ED, GEC grew from seven staff to 20, and grew its annual budget sevenfold. During a time when many non-profits and businesses struggled due to the pandemic, GEC expanded and evolved its programs and operations across Canada. It developed innovative special projects to address systemic barriers to the business net-zero transition, broadened its internal technical knowledge and capabilities, and fostered national and regional partnerships to accelerate climate action. One of GEC’s programs will have enabled the installation of more than 900 electric vehicle charging stations across the country by the end of this year, with more than $14M in investments being made toward the green economy. Under its new strategic plan, GEC aims to expand the scalability and accessibility of its network’s impactful offerings, and deepen its partnerships to mainstream climate action in the business community.
“Priyanka has brought to this organization a clear and ambitious vision, deep dedication to positive change, and an unmatched work ethic,” says Julia-Marie Becker, Board Chair of Green Economy Canada. “In addition to her visionary and strategic leadership, she has cultivated a culture of kindness, inclusion and true teamwork within GEC. She is deeply admired and respected, within and outside of the organization. It is with great gratitude that I thank her for her personal dedication and commitment to the growth and success of Green Economy Canada. Her legacy and strategic vision will help to carry the organization for many years to come.”
The Board has created a hiring committee to search for a successor and ensure a smooth transition. Candidates interested in applying for the Executive Director role are encouraged to check out the job posting.
