Green Economy Canada (GEC) is thrilled to announce that Matthew Lynch is the new Executive Director as of July 2, 2025.
Matthew is a people-focused and strategic leader with 25+ years of experience driving sustainability. He joins the current team of 20 people across Canada, providing practical guidance and support to Canadian businesses that want to lead on innovation and climate action.
Green Economy Canada is a national non-profit accelerating Canada’s transition to a vibrant and inclusive net-zero future, supporting and engaging with businesses of all sectors and sizes in taking action on climate change and creating more sustainable operations. Through our growing network of Hubs, members and partners, we’re making business better — together.
Outgoing Executive Director Priyanka Lloyd has built a solid foundation and grown the impact of the organization over the last 12 years.
“We are delighted that a leader of Matthew’s background and calibre is joining to take GEC to the next level,” says Board Chair, Julia-Maria Becker. “Matthew’s arrival marks a healthy transition for GEC.”
“I’m extremely excited to be joining Green Economy Canada at this strategic moment and to roll up my sleeves with the team and our partners,” says Matthew Lynch. “Canada is navigating its role in uncertain global trade and economic realities and the impacts hit close to home in small and medium-sized businesses across the country. When those businesses are looking to make climate-smart investments for the future, GEC will help amplify their voice and seek to draw 10,000 businesses into climate action and solutions by 2028.”
Matthew Lynch is the former director of the Centre for Building Sustainable Value at the Ivey Business School in London, ON. At Ivey, he co-led the Corporate Strategies for Net Zero research initiative, engaging with leading Canadian firms that have set science-based climate targets to understand how businesses navigate the strategic dimensions of ambitious climate action.
Prior to his position at Ivey, Matthew was Vice President of Global Partnerships and Initiatives at the World Council on City Data, and Director, Sustainable Cities at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Board and team at GEC wishes to thank Priyanka Lloyd for her dedication to GEC’s potential and wish her every success with the next stage of her career.
