We’re proud to announce that Polaris Transportation has set a new target!
We’re thrilled to share that the team at Polaris Transportation has set a target to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 30% by 2030 from a 2023 baseline. Headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, Polaris Transportation Group provides cross-border supply chain solutions between Canada and the United States, specializing in transportation, logistics, warehousing, and distribution. Polaris delivers technology-driven solutions and exceptional customer experiences with a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, people, and the community. Polaris integrates responsible practices across every stage of its operations.
After completing their greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory with Green Economy Canada, Polaris learned that the majority of their Scope 1 emissions come from its own fleet vehicles. Some of the actions that Polaris is considering is switching to low carbon alternative fuels such as renewable diesel, expanding the adoption of fuel efficient retrofits and further utilizing telematics data to improve route optimization and encourage drive behavior that support fuel efficiency. Besides fleet-focused actions, Polaris will implement initiatives to optimize and reduce their building natural gas use, such as installing smart HVAC control systems and air-source heat pumps. With respect to their Scope 2 emissions, Polaris continues to monitor opportunities to reduce electricity-related emissions and is planning to pursue on-site renewable energy generation following planned upgrades to the local electricity grid.
“Reaching this target took careful analysis and teamwork. It’s ambitious in the right ways, provides Polaris with a strong foundation to grow sustainably, and supports how we manage climate-related risks.” says Dave Cox, Chief Executive Officer of Polaris.
Green Economy Canada has been proud to support Polaris in reaching their target-setting milestone. We look forward to continuing to work together over the coming years to help them achieve their climate goals.
