On Earth Day, April 22, 2021, Green Economy Peterborough, hosted by GreenUP, officially launched as the newest Green Economy Hub in our growing national network. Over 120 attendees joined for a virtual launch celebration, demonstrating significant local support and energy for what the Hub will bring to the local community.
Diverse local stakeholders also shared why they are excited to be engaged with Green Economy Peterborough through a launch video.
Green Economy Peterborough will bring together, support, and celebrate local businesses and organizations in setting and achieving sustainability targets. The 15 founding members of the Hub were acknowledged and celebrated at the launch event for leading the movement to a low-carbon economy in Peterborough.
“Being part of a local network is an important part for our business, so that we can share ideas, learn from others, and set an example that others can follow,” says Scott Murison, co-owner of Wild Rock Outfitters and a founding member of Green Economy Peterborough. “It’s important to be connected to the local community.”
Green Economy Peterborough’s launch also acknowledged the support of key funders of the initiative including Peterborough and the Kawarthas Economic Development, Natural Resources Canada, the County of Peterborough, and TD, and has received widespread media coverage from outlets such as kawarthaNOW, The Peterborough Examiner, and Global News.
We’re thrilled to see Green Economy Peterborough launch with strong support from local businesses and the broader community, and eager to see the ongoing impact the Hub will have in helping organizations take climate action and build sustainability into their operations.
